If you have seen @Tweenky’s recent tweets, then you will know that there’s a brand spanking new version of Tweenky coming down the pipeline.  Version 0.4 of Tweenky has been rewritten from the ground up and we’re very excited about finally getting this release out the door.  There’s still a few more bug fixes and testing to do, but it is nearing an official launch.

If you are curious about what is new in this version…

Features

  • OAuth support
  • Simplified Interface
  • Dedicated Twitter Support
  • Faster
  • Smoother
  • IE support (for the first time ever!)
  • Less memory intensive
  • Integrated TopChirp support.  What is TopChirp?  It was a StartupWeekend KC project I worked on and the concept is to add Digg functionality into Twitter.  You’ll now find a “Chirp It” link on each Tweet menu.  Go ahead, chirp something then go check out TopChirp.com

As always, we value your feedback so if you have anything to say, shoot us an email at feedback@tweenky.com.  Happy Tweeting!

This update marked the Beta 3 Update 2 (ver 0.3.2) maintenance update of Tweenky.

Changelog

  • Added FancyBox, a jQuery plugin which is used to overlay the tweet author’s page (example: http://www.twitter.com/derek/) when you click that user’s name or image.  Also used in a few other places.  See example screenshot here.
  • Fixed bug for non-twitter service external urls.
  • Code cleanup & localized some JavaScript includes.
  • Other general bug fixes.

This update marked the Beta 3 Update 1 (ver 0.3.1) maintenance update of Tweenky.  Due to the need to push out ver 0.3.0 ahead of schedule when ver 0.2.3 failed to scale, I view this release as that first stable 0.3.* version.

Changelog

  • Greatly improved performance
  • Removed “Clear all Tweets” button as its purpose was redundant.  Now, “read” tweets are cleared on next timeline update.
  • Added additional documentation to help new users
  • Fixed bug that prevented some outgoing tweets from successfully being sent.  These troublesome “tweets” often included various symbols, like “@” or “#”, or were near/at the 140 character limit.
  • Increased the size of the “Post new update” box.  It was rather annoying when long messages caused scrolling inside the text box.
  • Added the current timeline unread count to the page title (like what search.twitter.com does).  This acts as a visual aid for users who have Tweenky open in a separate, non-focused tab.
  • Other general bug fixes.

Other Notes

  • I did lots of experimentation with displaying tweets in a threaded view for @replies.  While it greatly improves the experience, the initial implementation was not as “clean” or “fast” as I would like it to be.  I expect discussion threading to be a focus for a 0.3.2 release.

As always, send an email to feedback@tweenky.com or comment to this post if you experience any issues or have a suggestions for features.  Feedback is always appreciated.

Happy Tweeting!

- Derek

Tweenky release: Beta 1

July 24, 2008

Today Tweenky officially enters it’s beta 1 phase (ver. 0.1), and you can read the TechCrunch coverage at Tweenky Brings Gmail’s Good Looks To Twitter

Tweenky is still quite a ways away from being pubic, and through the course of development I am certain the featureset & objectives will be altered, so I won’t comment much on those at this point. Stay tuned over the coming weeks.
